Onions

{photos by the happy seven-year old. except for the one directly above.}

i get my onions from my grandpa. he is so good about sharing with me.

i plant 16 onions in one square foot. as the onions grow, i pull them out to use and that gives the other onions more space to grow.

for any of you locals planting a garden this year, and need onions, my grandpa has more to share!
just let me know.

Planting Peas

it's planting time!

two little boys helped me get the soil in one 4 foot x 4 foot box ready for planting...
we mixed in some compost and took out debris. but mostly had fun digging, shoveling, and playing.

we came inside for a bit to get out of the wind, and peeled some bark to make plant markers.

then we went back outside and took turns placing little peas into little holes. (9 holes per each square foot.)

i'm thinking i want to plant another box with just peas. i love eating them fresh from the garden! more dreaming and planning and working to come.

Last of the Peach Jam

i love eating peach jam on toast. it is so good. i've been eating it up like crazy.

i do not love chunks of fruit in my jam. i know, kind of picky.

so when i made peach jam last september, i followed the directions inside the pectin package. instead of just chopping the peaches up, i chopped then blended them in the blender. no more chunks!

i wish i had more peaches. it's going to be a long time until september.

My Version

my version of living with kids: a pack of hair holders nicely displayed on a spool board.

and then after taking the above pictures, turning around and finding this...

a melting bucket. "to keep it warm," says the four-year old.

yep. i definitely live with kids.

happy valentines day!

cake balls are a first for me!

the dipping part was a little trickier than i expected, but they sure turned out cute!

Monster Wallets

sometimes it's hard being four!

especially when you have a mom that makes things. and you want those things. but she has just about enough to use as birthday gifts for her primary class. so she tells you that she'll make you one.

and that means you'll have to wait... for you don't know how long.

the pattern is the monster pouch.

i've made quite a few of these for birthday gifts. they are fast and fun! and since they only take a small amount of yarn, i usually have the supplies on hand.

and that is another one of my goals this year...to use more of what i already have.

NOT Left-handed

i was hoping that one of the five would be like me. left-handed, that is.

i do have one brother that is a lefty, but it looks like she is going to be like her brothers and sisters. oh well.
